The infrastructure of Kisii is very poor. There is no electricity or telecommunication. During rainy seasons the roads become quite risky because of soil erosion from the hills.
The economy of Kisii is mainly based on agriculture. The main cash crops are tea, coffee and pyre thrum. Other than that maize, beans, millet, potatoes are also grown as subsistence crops.
Health facility is inadequate. There is a government and a mission hospital. People usually suffer from malaria, anemia, pneumonia, meningitis, tuberculosis, and measles.
Education is not a problematic issue in Kisii. It has more than 679 primary schools and 134 secondary schools. The rate of adult literacy is 56%.
