Yoyogi National Gymnasium is located in Yoyogi Park, Tokyo and beside the Harajuku Station. The gymnasium can be easily accessed from anywhere in Tokyo. It has acquired international fame for its unique roof design. It has a hanging roof. The construction work started in 1961 and it took four years to complete the work.
Kenzo Tange is the designer of this Tokyo gymnasium. He designed it so beautifully that it inspired the work of German architect, Frei Paul Otto. Otto had designed the arena for the Summer Olympics, 1972 following the tent-like futurist style of Yoyogi National Gymnasium.

In the year 1964, diving and swimming, gymnasium and basketball events of Summer Olympics were held over here. The Yoyogi National Gymnasium is also used for basketball and ice hockey activities. It has a capacity of accommodating 10,500 people. In the year of 1997, the opening season of National Hockey League was also held over here.
