Yasukuni Shrine was established in the year 1869. Then it was known as Tokyo Shokonsha, however, later in 1879, it was renamed as Yasukuni Shrine. Yasukuni Shrine is situated in Tokyo's Chiyoda ward, near the Kudanshita Station. It is believed that this shrine was made in order to show respect to those brave warriors who sacrificed their own lives for the sake of building foundation for "the land of the rising sun".
Almost around 2.5 million people who fought in the Satsuma Rebellion, the Meiji Restoration, the Russo-Japanese War, the First Sino-Japanese War, the First World War, the Second Sino-Japanese War, the Manchurian Incident and the Pacific War are enshrined over here.

Yusukan War Memorial Museum,which is indeed a great place to go for.Usually in the winter seasons, Yasukuni Shrine remains open from 9 am-5 pm, whereas, during the summer seasons, opening hours is extended till 5.30 p.m.
At the entrance, one will come across a Torii Gate that is made out of metal. Each year, a number of events are held in this place. Among them, autumn and spring festival and sumo tournament are the most prominent ones.
Inside this shrine complex, one will also come across the first bronze statue of Japan, made in western design. This is the statue of the first War Minister (post Meiji Restoration), Omura Masujiro. Apart from this, there are 2 big lanterns, made of stones. They are kept here in order to show homage to the Navy and Army men.
