St. Luke's International Hospital


St. Luke's International Hospital established in 1902 is the first missionary hospital in Tokyo. The St. Luke's International Hospital in Tokyo was founded by Dr. Rudolph Bolling Teusler with the help of Japanese Dr. Tokutaro Kubo. This hospital started as a clinic with five inpatient rooms and one Operation Theater.

Presently, Tokyo St. Luke's International Hospital is a 520 bedded medical treatment facility housed in three blocks covering a total floor area of almost 61,000 square meters. As per 2004 estimates this Tokyo hospital treats about 2550 outpatients daily. There are nearly 250 qualified doctors, over 600 trained nurses, about 60 nurse assistants, around 20 pharmacists, 200 medical technicians and about 140 administrative staff.

  • Heart Center – Specializes in Cardiovascular surgery and Cardiovascular internal medicine
  • Surgery - Dedicated departments for Gastroenterological surgery, Thoracic surgery, Breast surgery, Orthopedic surgery, and
    General surgery.
  • Internal Medicine – Separate divisions for Infectious diseases, Endocrinology, Nephrology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology, Psychosomatic disorders, Respiratory diseases, Hematology, Collagen disorders, and General medicine
  • Comprehensive Women's Medicine – Specialized sections for Gynecological surgery, General Obstetrics, Perinatology
  • Ambulatory Children Care Center – This center has dedicated divisions for Pediatric Surgery, and Pediatrics
  • Dermatology - In addition to an internal medicine section, there is a section for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
In addition to the aforesaid there are specialized departments for Urology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Reproductive Surgery, Interventional Radiology, Dental Surgery, Psychiatry, Anesthesiology, Kidney Center, Rehabilitation, and Emergency Medical Services.

St. Luke's International Hospital is located in Akashi-cho, Chuo-ku, within walking distance from Tsukiji (Hibiya Line), and Shintomicho (Yurakucho line) subway stations.
