Ryogoku Kokugikan is an ideal tourist destination for all the vacationers. It is located on the Japanese capital city of Tokyo and is very close to the Edo-Tokyo Museum beside Ryogoku station. In 1985, Ryogoku Kokugikan was opened to public. This attractive place of Japan houses a number of chanko restaurants, sumo stables and a sumo stadium. The Japan Sumo Association is the owner of Ryogoku Kokugikan, Tokyo.
Most of the important sumo tournaments are organized in the months of September, March, and January. Apart from sumo wrestling, various other activities are also held over there. Before the 20th century, major Sumo events used to take place outside the premises of the

temples and shrines. In the year of 1909, for the first time a permanent sumo hall was constructed in the area of Ryogoku. Ryogoku is fondly referred to as the sumo town of Japan.
Ryogoku Kokugikan is mainly visited by the sport-lovers, since it has gained worldwide recognition in the field of indoor sporting events. Around 13,000 spectators can fit into this place at a time. G-1 Climax is one among the major historical sporting events that was held in this place.
There are several cafeterias and restaurants that provide refreshments. The Kokugikan Café is one such cafeteria which is renowned for its comfortable ambience and quality food.
