Nippon Budokan, Tokyo




Nippon Budokan enjoys a central location in the Kitanomaru Park of Tokyo. One can find the Yasukuni Shrine and Kudanshita Subway Station near this place. In the year 1964, Nippon Budokan was constructed to provide space for the judo competition at the Tokyo Olympics, 1964.
At present, it is used as a major venue for the musical concerts. Martial arts events are also organized in Nippon Budokan.

Nippon Budokan is also popularly known as 'Budokan'. The octagonal - shaped stadium is around 140 feet high. This Tokyo stadium resembles Horyuji temple hall in Nara. Roughly 14, 000 spectators can be fitted into this place at a time. The 1st floor of Nippon Budokan comprises around 2762 seats, whereas, on the 2nd floor, there are 3199 seats. Apart from this, the 3rd floor of the stadium has around 7760 seats. Around 480 people are allowed to watch programs while standing in the stadium. Some of the most remarkable events that took place in Nippon Budokan include national championships of Kenda, Judo, Karate, Aikido, Naginata, Kyudo, Shorinji Kempo and several others. Moreover, a number of wrestling competitions are organized regularly in this place. Nowadays Pro wrestling, NOAH use this venue mainly for various competitions.

Many of the Japanese watched live rock concerts in this stadium of Tokyo. In 1966, the Beatles have made their debut (Japanese) in the stadium. Added to this, 'Live at Budokan' albums are recorded in Nippon Budokan, Tokyo. Some other great personalities who performed in Nippon Budokan and contributed towards its rapidly growing popularity are Bob Dylan, Cheap Trick ( a pop band of America), Kiss, Pearl Jam and many others.

Each year Nippon Budokan is used for the national ceremony where the brave martyrs of World War II are commemorated.
