Tokyo Motor Show




Tokyo Motor Show is organized by Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association Incorporation. In 2007, the Motor Show of Tokyo was held between 26th October and 11th November, at Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Tokyo.
The total footfall in this 17 days event was around 1,425, 800.

History of Tokyo Motor Show
The first Tokyo Motor Show was held from 20th to 29th April, 1954 in Hibiya Park. The show was attended by His Imperial Highness Prince Takamatsu, and Mr. Yasushi Yuge, President of Automotive Industrial Association. There were 254 participants displaying 267 car models. This was the largest motor car exhibition after the second world war. Thereafter, thirty nine such shows have been held in Tokyo.

Tokyo Motor Show Statistics
The Tokyo Motor Shows over the years have yielded certain interesting figures. Some of them are:
  • The first four shows from 1954 to 1957 were held in Hibiya Park. In these four years. It drew the largest crowd of almost 785,00 in the second show in 1955. In the first two years, admission to the show was free.
  • Tickets were issued on a regular basis for the first time in the 1957 Tokyo Motor Show in Hibiya Park. The admission fee was ¥ 20.
  • The 5th Motor Show in 1958 was held in Korakuen for eleven days from 10th to 20th October.
  • From the 6th Tokyo Motor Show in 1959 onwards till the 27th show in 1987 the fair shifted to Harumi. Amongst them the 16th exhibition in 1969 had the highest footfall of 1,523,500 visitors.
  • From the 28th Show onwards in 1989, it is being held in Makuhari. The 29th show held from 25th October to 8th November, 1991 had a record of 2,018,500 visitors. This record is still unbroken.
Tokyo Motor Show has been patronized by the leading car manufacturers in the world like Honda, Mazda, Toyota, Nissan, Volvo, Ford, Jaguar, Renault, Bentley, Volkswagen, Ferrari, FIAT, Alfa Romeo, Mercedes Benz, BMW, Chrysler, Opel and the like.
