Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, also known as Tocho or Tokyo City Hall, is the center for various kinds of administrative works in Tokyo. This building houses the administrative headquarters of 23 wards of the Tokyo government a well the villages, towns and cities of greater Tokyo. The building, located in Shinjuku was constructed between the period April 1988 and March 1991. After Tokyo Tower, this is the tallest structure in Tokyo with a height of 248 meters. The total area of land is 42, 940 meters square while the building area includes 27, 500 meter square in total. The building lies at 35 ° 41' 10'' north latitude and 139° 41'43'' east longitude.
Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building comprises three important buildings. There are 48 floors in the first building with three underground floors. This building is 243 meters in height. The second building, which is 163 meters in height, is 34 storied with three floors below the ground. The third is the seven-storey

assembly building with one ground floor. This building is 41 meters in height. The buildings have important offices of education, police departments, fire and so on. These offices guide the citizens of Tokyo with lot of necessary information.
The towers look magnificent during sunset. The 2 observatories located on the tower's 45th storey of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building offer an excellent sight of the city. Tourists can access the observatories by means of express elevators. The observatories are open from 9.30 am to 11pm. However, the visitors can enter only 30 minutes before the closing time. The south observatory is closed on the first and third Tuesday and north observatory closed on second and fourth Monday of every month. There is no entrance fee required.
Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building is a 10 minutes walk from the western gate of the Shinjuku Station. Travelers can also access the building from the Tocho-mae Station.
