Lightopis (Festival of Lights), Tokyo




Lightopia or festival of lights is celebrated in Tokyo during the Christmas season. Extending from 20th December to 31st December, this ten-day festival is held in the Kokyo Gaien (Imperial Palace garden), and Marunouchi district of Tokyo.

Lightopia Venue
Lightopia in Tokyo is celebrated throughout the districts and city of Tokyo. Some localities are specially famous for this 'lightopia' festival. The localities of Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo Station, Gyoko-dori and Naka-dori Avenues, Imperial Palace Garden or Kokyo Gaein, Otemachi, Tokyo International Forum, and Yurakucho are thronged with visitors during this Tokyo festival of lights.

Event Lightopia
Event Lightopia is a magnificent visual extravaganza. The illuminated Wadakura Bridge, the decorated Wadakura Fountain Park, and the light and flower display on the Naka-Dori and Gyoko-Dori Avenues are a visual spectacle. Dedicated to environment protection, and global peace, the Kurahashi Wada is lined with decorative lights. About 170,000 illuminated pots are used to create a 'Flower Fantasia'.

These localities may be accessed by foot from JR Tokyo station, except Chiyoda-ku which is accessible from Yurakucho Station.

Lightopia, is a merry making festival that highlights Christmas in Tokyo, and ushers in the New Year with fanfare and fancy display of colorful lights.
