Languages Spoken in Tokyo




In Tokyo, several languages are used as mode of communication. However, the official language of Tokyo is Japanese and most of the people treat it as their first language. It is seen that Japanese language has many dialects,
among which Kagoshima is one of the most popular dialects. Apart from this, some other languages which are mostly spoken by the residents of Tokyo comprise Okinawan and Korean. The other prominent languages of Tokyo include Kunigami, Oki-No-Erabu, Kikai and Yonagami.

While talking about the languages of Tokyo, Korean language also deserves mention which is spoken by a vast majority of the Japanese citizens. Kanji, Hiragana and Katakana are some of the notable writing scripts of the Tokyo language.

Among them Kanji system features Chinese characters. Recently, a number of Shinto, Buddhist and Christian writings were translated into Japanese language.

The local sign boards and the names of the subways and railway stations of Tokyo are written in Romaji or Roman characters. The Katakana language is a simplified form of Japanese. The Katakana language shares several common words with the English language and is thus convenient to learn. The international language of English is also fluently spoken by the educated local residents of Tokyo.
