Koishikawa Korakuen Garden, Tokyo




Koishikawa Korakuen Garden is one of the beautiful sightseeing places in Tokyo. Among the landscaped gardens of Tokyo, Koishikawa Korakuen Garden is one of the oldest one. Koishikawa Korakuen Garden was constructed during the early years of the Edo Period.

Koishikawa Korakuen Garden in Tokyo was constructed by successors of Tokugawa Shogun. Yorifusa Mito started the construction of this landscape garden in 1629. Mitsukuni Mito had completed the construction of the beautiful garden. The garden is now owned by the University of Tokyo which is situated very near to it.

Mitsukuni named the garden, 'Korakuen'. The word Korakuen is derived from Koraku which means to enjoy later. By the Cultural Properties Protection Law of Japan, Koishikawa Korakuen Garden has been identified as a historical site of Tokyo. One can also find the influences of Chinese art and culture in this garden of Tokyo. The garden is decorated with artificial hills and man made lakes. In a miniature form, Japan and China's landscape have been constructed in this garden.

In Koishikawa Korakuen Garden visitors cherish the scenic beauty of the place. The garden is worth visiting during the Plum Festival in February.

Tourists and local people can visit Koishikawa Korakuen Garden by paying an entry fee of 300 Yen. The garden remains open for the visitors every day from 9 am to 5 pm. However, during the New Year the garden remains closed from 29th December to 1st January.

Tourists can visit Koishikawa Korakuen Garden from the Lidabashi Station which is about 5 to 10 minutes from the splendid garden.
