Kasai-Rinkai Park is a natural park in the Kasai area located by the side of the ocean. The Kasai area existed as a flourishing fishermen's village during the Edo period. Kasai village got subsequently destroyed due to typhoons in 1917, 1947 and later in 1949. In 1960, the need to protect ecosystem of Tokyo Bay was strongly felt. Kasai Rinkai Park came up as a result and it was opened for public in 1989.
The nearest station to the Kasai Rinkai Park is the Kasai-Rinkai Kouen station. Tourists can take shuttle buses that depart from Nishi Kasai station and Kasai station on the Tousai line. JR Tokyo Station is also half an hour away from the Kasai Rinkai Park. To reach the station's main platform, which is a bit far away from the station, the travelers need to move along the red signs.
The ocean side Kasai Rinkai Park has innumerable visitors of all age groups. Between the beach and the entrance of the park is a small hill on which a magnificent building made of glass has been constructed and opened for all in 1994. The park features amazing ocean view, grassy fields, open picnic areas and a portion that houses ocean animals and birds. However, this portion for animals and birds is restricted for general public.
Kasai has two islands. The western island features a bird sanctuary and the eastern island has a long bridge and is a wonderful place to roam around. These islands are also known by the name of Marine Park or Kasai - Kaihin Park. The bird sanctuary has paved roads. Tourists can enjoy bird watching through the peepholes.
The Daiya and Hana Ferris Wheel, which is Tokyo's tallest, is an important attraction of the park. The Ferris wheel is 117 meters in height allowing the visitor to cover a distance of 111 meters in 17 minutes. The Daiya (diamond) and Hana (flower) Ferris wheel remain open on weekdays from 10:00 am to 08:00 pm. On holidays and weekends, it is open till 9:00 pm.
Tokyo Sea Life is another part of the Kasai Rinkai Park. This park is actually an aquarium, which displays the rich marine life in and around Tokyo.
