Festivals in Tokyo




Festivals of Tokyo are observed throughout the year. The people of Tokyo in Japan celebrate these festivals with lots of pomp and gusto.
There are certain festivals that are celebrated in different seasons of the year. The festivals are observed during spring, winter, summer and fall.

The festivals of Tokyo reflect the culture and tradition of the society. One will also come across the different customs of the society through these cultural events in Tokyo. Most of the festivals are observed in a temple or a shrine located in the city. Generally they are held every year.

During the months of March to May certain festivals are observed. Some of the festivals celebrated during spring are:
  • Sanja Festival
  • Kanda Matsuri Festival
  • Hinode Matsuri festival
  • Kappa Masturi festival
  • Meji Shrine Spring Festival
During winter, in the months of December to February, the following events and festivals of Tokyo are celebrated:
  • Setsubun festival
  • Tenno Tanjobi
  • Dezome-shiki Firemans
  • Hatsumode New Year's Prayers at different temples and shrines
There are many festivals of Tokyo that are celebrated in summer months of June to August. They are
  • Tokyo Bay fireworks
  • Fukagawa Hachiman Matsuri
  • Koenji Awa Odori
  • Sumida fireworks
In Tokyo, Tokyo Jidai Matsuri is observed during September and November months, during fall. The Grand Sumo Tournaments are important events in Tokyo. The tournaments take place in the months of May, September and January. Tokyo International Film Festival is organized in November. It is a much awaited event in the city of Tokyo.

People love to observe the colorful parades taken out during certain festivals. The Samba carnivals are celebrated with colorful costume and girls dancing to the Samba music. The firework festivals also attract many people.
