Tokyo Board of Education is also known as the Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education. This is the government body of Tokyo city and looks after the education system and education institutions of Tokyo. The city is divided into twenty three wards and all of these wards have schools affiliated to the Tokyo Board of Education.
The Chief Objective of Tokyo Board of Education
The Tokyo Board of Education bears the responsibility of designing and implementing a curriculum for students. Education to this board authorities is not just about formal studies and examinations. The objective of the schools under this board is to bring up the students as responsible and sensible citizens of Japan. This is indeed a serious job. There are four basic principles followed by the board authorities. These principles include:

- Encouragement and growth of individual choice, innovative ideas and creativity.
- Development of social consciousness, respect towards fellow human beings and willingness to serve the society.
- Progress of school management based on the understanding of the value of citizenship. Thus all necessary change in curriculum according to the need of the times is welcome.
The strictness of the Tokyo Board of Education became clear when the board authorities decided to punish some of the teachers. This was on grounds of their insufficient respect towards the Japanese National Anthem. Reportedly, the teachers had refused to sing the Japanese National Anthem during some important school events.
