Rome Infrastructure

Rome Infrastructure has been of immense interest to tourists, historians, and research scholars. The infrastructure of Rome comprising Rome roads, Rome water systems, and transport of Rome was highly developed since the 8th century B.C. The authorities in Rome are aiming at integrating the water and road transport to provide smooth movement within the Italian capital city.

All Roads lead to Rome - Rome Roads

The history of Roman roads dates back to the 8th century B.C. These roads connected the city of Rome to major towns around Rome, and distant European cities. The roads, though mainly used by the Roman army also are used by the commoners for movement from one Roman town to another. The roads are of three categories:
  • Consular Roads were the most important
  • Local roads that originated from Rome were named according to the town they led to
  • Roads for particular use

Roman waters – Rome Water Systems

Rome water systems locally termed Aquae Urbis Romae, studies the convergences of natural water formations like the river Tiber, streams, springs, marshes, and rain, with artificial water bodies like fountains, aqueducts, bridges, sewers, and conduits. Together with the development of the water bodies, Aquae Urbis Romae has endeavored to establish an ecologically responsible environment for the development of a well-planned infrastructure.

Covering the Empire - Rome Transport

Rome transport forms an integral part of Rome Infrastructure. Public transportation in Rome comprises Metro (underground) railway, and city bus service. The tickets are common for both the Metro railway, and city buses. Standard 75 minute ride tickets, daily tickets, 3 – day tickets, and weekly tickets are available at bars, and from vending machines at major bus stops and metro stations. The underground metro services operate from 5:30 am till 11:30 pm, and the bus services operate throughout 24 hours. Rome Infrastructure is highly developed to ease the movement of tourists to all the major attractions.
