Rome is the capital of Italy. It is the largest commune in Italy and also the capital of its region, called Latium. The city is also called "la Città Eterna" (the Eternal City), "l'Urbe" and "The City of the Seven Hills". With the rise of Christianity in the region The Vatican, a sovereign enclave within Rome has become the seat of the Roman Catholic Church and the home of the Pope. It was earlier the capital of the Roman Empire, later it became the Papal States and presently Rome is the Kingdom of Italy and Italian Republic. Rome is a major educational center of Europe. It is now considered as the capital of Italy, center of the Catholic Church and a major metropolis.
Tourist Attractions: The city's medieval as well as modern buildings draws thousands of tourists to it. The numerous churches in the city also attract pilgrims.
Transportation: Rome's international airport 'Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport - FCO' (Fiumicino), which is the chief Italian airport, Ciampino Airport and Aeroporto dell'Urbe are the major airports in the city. The two-line subway system- Rome Metro also serves the nation. The bus and railway system in the city are the other means of transport offered by the city.
