History of St. Jamesy's Hospital

St. Jamesy's Hospital was established in 1727 at the site where Dublin Corporation had earlier decided to make a poorhouse. The board of governors comprises of many eminent people like Jonathan Swift and Arthur Guinness. In the early nineteenth century the hospital was closed and the building was called South Dublin Union, which was used as an infirmary for the poor. After the formation of the new state the hospital developed as a municipal hospital and its name was changed to St. Kevin's Hospital. In the late nineteenth century, some voluntary hospitals of Dublin were merged and the hospital was named St. Jamesy's Hospital. In the mid eighties many hospitals were closed and most of the services offered by these hospitals were integrated into the St. James's Hospital.

Visiting Hours of St. James's Hospital

St. James's Hospital provides flexible visiting timings for the interest of all patients. During the daytime the visiting timings are between 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm, while in the evening from 6.00pm to 8.00pm. Visitors are not permitted to stay in the hospital after 8.30pm. Children below the age of 14 years are not allowed to visit patients who are admitted in the Burns Unit, Dennis Burkitt Ward, Intensive Care Unit, Critical Care Unit, or Walter Stevenson Unit.
