National Museum of Ireland is one of the main cultural attractions, dedicated to Ireland's art, natural history and material culture. The collections and exhibitions of this museum are showcased on four sites, three locations in Dublin and one in the west in Co. Mayo. The original location of National Museum of Ireland is at Collins Barracks in Dublin, which is also the main administrative headquarters.
This museum organizes art exhibitions on coins and furniture, costume and clothing, as well as personal collections of many famous personalities. The museum also organizes temporary exhibitions, lectures, seminars and an outdoor workshops of summer events. It also boasts a state of art business event space and café. Several new exhibition galleries are being built to exhibit many more rare artifacts of the ethnographic collection, geology and Irish history. Approximately a half-day's visit is required to explore this enormous museum with all its elegance.

The National Museum of Ireland presently is made up of four separate buildings, three of them are sited in Dublin and one in Castlebar, Co. Mayo. The National Museum of Ireland - Archaeology and History is located on Kildare Street, Dublin 2, it was the original home of the Dublin Museum of Science and Art, established in 1890. The National Museum of Ireland - Natural History is situated at the Merrion Street, Dublin 2, this museum belongs to the Royal Dublin Society or RDS. This museum has been open to the general public since 1857. The National Museum of Ireland - Decorative Arts and History at Collins Barracks, Benburb Street in Dublin 7 was open to public visits since 1997 and is presently the administrative headquarters of the National Museum of Ireland. The National Museum of Ireland - Archaeology and History showcases Ireland's internationally famous collection of Bronze Age gold ornaments and Irish Christian treasures including the Ardagh Chalice, the Tara Brooch, the Derrynaflan Hoard, the Shrine of St Patrick's Bell and many others. National Museum of Ireland - Natural History is the oldest building of the museum. Skeletons of Irish deer and other animals from all over the globe can be viewed in this museum. Museum of Decorative Arts and History displays decorative arts and exhibits related to the economic, social, political and military history of the nation.

The Museum Shop is frequented by the visitors to purchase the exceptional range of Museum-related materials like books, posters, cards and jewelery. The Museum Café offers refreshing snacks and beverages during the museum hours. Guided tours are conducted for demonstrating the collections. €2 per person is charged for guided tours. Group tours and education programs are arranged by the Education and Outreach Department. Facilities enjoyed by the visitors include an audiovisual room, a resource room and an activity room. All museum buildings of National Museum of Ireland have the facility of wheelchair access.
