Dublin Lord Mayor is the first citizen of the capital city of Ireland and is the symbolic head of the Dublin City Council. He is elected annually by the members of Dublin City council from amongst its members. Councilor Paddy Burke is the present Lord Mayor of Dublin. As Dublin's 338th Lord Mayor, councilor Burke represents the Artane ward.
History of the Office of The Lord Mayor
King Henry III in the year 1229 issued a charter, giving the Dublin citizens the democratic right to elect a Mayor every year. Richard Muton was elected as the first Mayor of Dublin in the same year.
In 1641, Charles I authorized the elevation of the office of Mayor to that of the Lord Mayor. However, it was not implemented immediately. The title was first used in

the year 1665 after the Dublin City Assembly finally resolved that this title should be bestowed on Sir Daniel Bellingham who belonged to the prestigious family of Baronets of Dublin, and was the Sheriff of the capital city. In modern Dublin city, the Lord Mayor, presides over all the meetings of the City Council and signs its records of proceedings. The official residence of the Lord Mayor of Dublin is the Mansion House.
Some of the eminent Lord Mayors of Dublin are Richard Muton (first Lord Mayor of Dublin), Bartholomew Ball, Walter Ball, Francis Taylor and Sir Daniel Belingham.
Dublin Lord Mayor along with the City Manager and the councilors formulate policies, in order to make Dublin of the the best cities to live in. Along with Paddy Bourke, councilor Anne Carter was elected the Deputy Lord Mayor of Dublin.
