International Dance Festival Ireland, features as one of the best dance festivals of not only Ireland but whole of Europe. The dance festival started in 2002, and since then it has been a huge hit. International Dance Festival Ireland showcases some different dance forms of both contemporary and traditional. It's huge success prompted it to become a significant annual event in the cultural calendar of Dublin. The festival is generally held every year during the months of April and May.
The 2004 International Dance Festival in Ireland witnessed the participation of fourteen dance companies from countries like UK, USA, France, Germany, Belgium and also Israel. The opening day of the festival was marked by the dance performance of the famous Mark Morris Dance Group from USA, at the Abbey National Theater. In the year 2008, the International Dance Festival of Ireland will be held between 17th April to 3rd May 2008. This year the famous Forsythe Company, a German dance company based in Frankfurt and Dresden, will be staging their shows. William Forsythe one of the world's best choreographers owns this company. He is known for his improvisation of classical ballet by incorporating contemporary art forms into it. The dance group will perform their most acclaimed 'Three Atmospheric Studies' at the Abbey Theater on April 2008. This dance depicts war and its consequences.
