DUBLIN

Dublin is the capital of Ireland. It is the largest city of the Republic of Ireland. Regarded as the best capital city in Europe to live in, Dublin served as the capital of the island of Ireland in different geopolitical entities such as the Lordship of Ireland, the Kingdom of Ireland, the island as part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and the Irish Republic. Founded as a center for the Viking slave trade, the city has been Ireland's capital city since medieval times. From the 14th to the16th century, Dublin and Pale were the only area of Ireland, which was brought under English government. With the help of Wide Streets Commission, the city expanded rapidly from the 17th century and became the second city of the British Empire. Dublin City Council that is presided over by the Lord Mayor of Dublin governs the city.
