In recent years the scenario of Education in Dublin has been developing at a very fast pace with the establishment of several international standard institutions. The education system of Dublin can be broadly divided into three basic levels namely the primary, secondary and higher education.

Primary Education in Dublin

The Primary schools in Dublin offer an eight-year program, comprising of two kindergarten years such as junior and senior infants. The kindergarten is followed by classes 1 to 6. The curriculum of primary schools provide diverse learning experiences to children. The curriculum includes the subjects like social, environmental and scientific education, languages, mathematics, social, personal and health education, arts education (including drama, visual arts and music) and physical education.

Various Certificate courses are offered by these schools that are prescribed by the Department of Education and Science. At the age of twelve, the second level education starts. This level constitutes of a three year junior cycle which is followed by a senior cycle of two or three years. At the end of junior cycle the students have to take a Junior Certificate Examination. After completing the senior cycle the students appear for the Leaving Certificate Examination. They can appear for this examination at seventeen or eighteen years of age.

During the secondary-level students can choose for at least of five subjects. The three core subjects include English, Mathematics and Irish. The optional subjects can be chosen from subjects like science, arts, languages, and other applied subjects (including
