Kerman




Kerman was among Iran's oldest civilizations. In Islamic periods, Kerman was the most well-known cultural center of Iran. At present Kerman is the capital of Kerman province and situated in central Iran eastwardly.

'Kerman' or 'Karmania' signifies bravery, probably to honor the meaning of this state it has evident so many royal up rises and down falls for centuries. Various dynastic changes according to the shifting in ruling powers had left Kerman with no peace literally. Since 7th century onward, Kerman has gone through ruins and bloodsheds.

Instead of various political changes over the years in Kerman regions, one interesting thing has remained same for years more or less. That is, Kerman has always been selected to be the capital of the region by various ruling parties throughout dynastical changes.

Presently Kerman city of Iran is well-known for making beautiful carpets with marked expertise. These carpets are exported to distant land of Europe and Asia, thus draw huge revenue for Iranian Government at one hand, on the other it increases the value of Kerman province of Iran to the outside world.

Till now Kerman is consisted of noted sculptural ruin of pre-historic periods. Some of the most significant reminiscent of Kerman architecture includes:
  • Medieval mosques
  • Faience outside the city walls
  • 16th-century mosaics with Chinese motives
  • Shrine of Shah Vali Namatullah (one of the honorable Iranian of 15th centuries)
  • Historical monuments
The Kerman city is settled in the lap of nature often becomes disturbed when earth quake and natural calamities takes over human lives. But the nature around with beautiful springs, and mountain peaks charms the visitors instantly.



Other than carpets, Kerman region of Iran is also famous for goats-wool shawls and cotton textiles.
