Arak




Arak, previously known as Soltan-abad is located in the center of Markazi province of Iran. According to the census report of 2005, Arak had an estimated population of around 511,127. Being located at the heart of the country, it provides all the modern facilities that a person may ask for.

Arak is situated at 34.08° N 49.7° E . The city is bordered by mountains in the south, west, and east and is situated nearby two important cities namely Qom and Isfahan. It is 280 km from Tehran, the capital of Iran.

The people of Arak experiences a comparatively cold and dry climate throughout the year. Its weather is dry and warm in summer, windy and cool in autumn, cold and snowy in winter and mild in spring. The maximum temperature of Arak may raise up to 35 degrees Celsius in summer and sometimes fall below -25 degrees Celsius in winter. The average rainfall of this Iranian city is approximately 300mm.

Arak is also considered to be one of the major industrial cities of Iran, having several plants for heavy industries. It is quite developed in the metal and machinery industries.

The main agricultural products of Arak are grain, barley and fruits (grape, apple, walnut,almond). Apart from this, Arak has gained international fame for Persian rug|carpets.
