Banda Aceh is the provincial capital of the Indonesian area of Aceh. Its name has been derived from the Persian Bandar, which means "port" or "haven". The city is also known as the "port to Meccah". Aceh also known as Nanggröe Aceh Darussalam is a special territory of Indonesia. Banda Aceh was the closest city to the epicenter of earthquake that triggered tsunami in 2004.
Area & Location: Lies on the island of Sumatra, Banda Aceh is located at 5°31' Latitude North and 95°25' Longitude East. The city, which has an elevation of 21m, has a population of 260,000.
