St Mary's Church |

On 3rd July of 1825, St Mary's Church was founded in Pune in India. Bishop Reginald Heber has set up this church, which in the recent years have become one of the important places of interest in Pune. St Mary's Church is located on Staveley Road in the city of Pune.
Among the Protestant churches in Pune, St Mary's Church is considered to be the oldest one. The architecture of the church follows the Gothic style. Before 1982, the huge steeple was one of the main attractions of St Mary's Church in Pune. But later on a smaller steeple replaced the larger one. It is this steeple that currently adorns the church.

The stained glass used to decorate the alter of St Mary's Church is another attraction of the church. The stained glasses were put up to honor Lieutenant Trotter in 1874. Some of the regimental flags are still hoisted in St Mary's Church. The church has preserved pipe organs that are more than 100 years old. A memorial plaque of Colonel William Morris is also kept in the church. Sir Robert Grant, once a governor of Mumbai, is buried in this church of Pune.
St Mary's Church was built in Pune for the English soldiers and officers who resided in this city during the British rule. Both the modern CNI ways as well as in the Old Anglican way of worship is followed in St Mary's Church. This church is reflective of the history of this Indian city.
