Pune Police is the law enforcing body in the city of Pune. It is the job of the police to look after matters regarding criminal offense, road traffic maintenance, missing persons and cyber law. The Special Branch of the Pune police is in charge of matters regarding passport, anti-terrorism issues, censor cell, verification and airport security. Also, there are several branches, such as the political branch, labor branch, communal branch, BDDS branch and administrative branch.
Pune Police Station
The entire city of Pune is segregated into several police wards and each of these wards are under a police station. Any case of breach of law in a particular area in Pune has to be reported to the concerned police station. There are three zones. Zone 1 of Pune includes regions of Kothrud, Samarth, Deccan, Vishrambag, Khadak and Farashkana. Zone 2 includes the areas Sahakar Nagar, Swargate, Hadapsar, Yerwada, Lashkar, Bundgarden and Wanawadi. Chatushringi, Bhosari,Vishrantwadi, Khadki, Hinjwadi and Nigdi. These chief police stations are named after these regions, but the regions are further subdivided for the sake of administrative efficiency.
Pune Police Organizational Structure
The topmost positions in the Pune Police station include the post of the Commissioner of Police, followed by the Joint Commissioner of Police and Additional commissioner. The next post is that of DCP. There are seven posts for DCP, three for the three zones of Pune, one for the crime branch, one for the special branch, one for the traffic branch and one for the HQ and DE division.
