Pune Municipal Corporation


Pune Municipal Corporation was formed in 1950 for effective administration of the city of Pune. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is headed by a Municipal Commissioner appointed by the Government of Maharashtra. In addition to the PMC, Pune also has the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to cater to the Chinchwara and Pimpri areas of Pune city.

The Pune Municipal Corporation is made up of councilors who are directly elected by popular mandate, and headed by a Mayor. The Mayor of the Pune municipality has restrictive powers.

For administrative purpose, the city of Pune is divided into forty-eight wards each being overseen by an Assistant Municipal Commissioner. Each of these 48 wards is represented by a councilor elected by popular voting process.Some of the important wards are Rajbhavan, National Chemical Library, Sutarwadi, Bopodi - CME, Bopodi – Gavthan, Bopodi – Anandnagar, Aundh Gaon, Aundh – ITI, Jaibhavani Nagar – Kothrud,Thorat Udyan – Kothrud, Gandhi Bhavan – Khotrud, Kothrud Gavthan, Higane Gavthan,
Higane Stree Shikshan Sanstha, Navsayadri Society – Higane, Dindayal Upadhyay Vidyalaya, More Vidyalay, Shiela Vihar Colony, Erandwana Gavthan, SNDT.

Water for everybody – PMC Water supply

PMC ensures supply of sufficient quantity of water to all households and commercial establishments. Water is drawn from Veer Dam, Venkoji Sagar, Panshet, Khadakwasla, Bhima, Kukdi, and Ghod.

On the roads – PMC Buses

The Pune Municipal Corporation also operates regular bus services within the city. These buses operate from Pune Station, Pune Corporation, Shivaji Nagar Station, Saras Baug, Mahatma Gandhi Bus Stand, Swargate and Deccan Gymkhana. PMC operates buses in 299 routes.

The present Mayor of Pune Municipality is Sm. Rajlakshmi Bhonsle, and Sri Praveen Singh Pardesi is the current Municipal Commissioner.
