Pune International Marathon is one of the oldest and popular sport events of Pune. The Pune International Marathon Trust, PIMT is the organizer of this sporting event. It organizes this International Marathon race under the direction of AFI (Athletic Federation of India). This race started in 1983.
In 2007, the 22nd International Marathon race of Pune was organized. Vodafone sponsored this game. The chief aim of this Pune International Marathon, 2007 was to raise fund for the AIDS patients. This is how, through a sport activity, AIDS awareness was grown among people. Around 30,000 athletes took part in this International race. Arun Bhardwaj, the top marathon runner of India was one among them.

The co-sponsors of this event were Health and Family Welfare Department, National AIDS Control Organization, NACO, Pune Municipal Corporation and India Government. Beside them, MSACS, AVERT Society and Emcure Pharmaceuticals also extended strong support to this game of Marathon.

25 lacs total prize amount was spend in the Pune International Marathon, 2007. The specific Prize money that was offered for various marathon races were:
- Men's Marathon (1st prize)- Rs. 3 Lakh
- Indian Men's Marathon (1st prize)- 0.75 Lakh
- Women's Half Marathon (1st prize)- 1.5 Lakh
- Indian Women's Half Marathon (1st prize)- 0.50 Lakh
In this event, group activities are highly boosted up. The racetrack of Pune International Marathion starts from Khandoji Baba Chowk and ends at DadawadI Jain Mandir.
People who participated in the organizing committee of 2007 marathon race were Shri Suresh Kalmadi (Pune International Marathon Trust's chairman), Shri Prahalad Sawant (Pune International Marathon Trust's General Secretary), Ms. Moti Iran and Ms. Sangeeta Welinkari (coordinators).
