Pune Infrastructure is a symbol of its growth and development To many, Pune is the cultural capital of Maharashtra. It is the Headquarters of Indian Army's Southern Command, Air base of India Air Force, and home of the University of Pune. Pune is also a cantonment area. Pune roads, transportation, post offices, police stations all add to the infrastructure of Pune.
On the roads - Pune Bus
Pune buses run on 299 routes covering not only the city locations, but also its outskirts like Chakan, Angalbegaon, Uralikanchan, Ghotawadegaon, Lohgaon, Pimpri Saandas, Nigdi, Pradhikaran, Talegaon, Alandi Darshan, and Chakan Gaon. These bus routes are operated by Pune Municipal Transport (PMT).
The Pune bus depots are located in Swargate, Kothrud, Katraj Pune Dairy, Market yard, N.T.Wadi, Hadaspar, Mal Dhakka, Jayprakash Garden, Dhengle Pool, Pune Railway Station, Nehru Stadium, Sarasbaug, PMT, Khadki Bazar, M. Gandhi, Visharambaug Wada, Deccan Gymkhana.
The State Transport operates buses on longer routes. There are 8 bus stations in Shivaji Nagar from where these buses leave. The Platforms with some of their respective destinations are as follows:
- Platform 1 - Buses for Aurangabad, Kolhapur, Mudgaon, Hubli, Belgaum, and Shirdi
- Platform 2 - Buses for Pathan, Shirala, Vaduj, Sangli, Dahiwadi, and Miraj
- Platform 3 - Buses for Mahabaleshwar, Junnar, Pargaon Khandala, Junnar, Wai
- Platform 4 - Buses for Bhardarvol, Bhor, Dapoli, Kealsi, Velha, and Wealas

- Platform 5 - Buses to Baramati, Bhorgaon, Dahiwadi, Gondawle, Lonand, Satara, Waduj
- Platform 6 - Buses for Ahmednagar, Alibaug, Borivali, Dadar, Karmala, Kuruwadi, Thane
- Platform 7 - Buses for Dapdi, Hinghangaon, Inamgaon, Lakhangaon, Mandavgan, Sidhatek
- Platform 8 - Buses to Jagityal, Hyderabad, Karimnagar, Kortla, Solapur, Tandur, Tuljapur
In addition to the above bus services, the State Transport runs 75 deluxe buses, and 7 air-conditioned coaches from Pune to Dadar in Mumbai daily.
Drop in a line - Pune Post Offices
Pune city has 36 post offices including the G.P.O. and the City Post Office. The normal working hours of the post offices are from 10 am till 5 pm. Pune City post office, and Chinchwad East post office remain open on Sundays and holidays from 10 am to 5 pm, and from 10 am to 3 pm respectively. The Pune City post office and N.P.O. Post office offer evening services from 5 pm to 8 pm on weekdays.
Effective care-taking - Pune Peths
For proper maintenance of Pune city, the municipality has divided the city into 18 wards or 'Peths'. These 'Peths' are Bhavani Peth, Budhwar Peth, Ganj Peth, Ganesh Peth, Ghorpade Peth, Guruwar Peth, Kasba Peth, Mangalwar Peth, Nana Peth, Narayan Peth, Navi Peth, Rasta Peth, Raviwar Peth, Sadashiv Peth, Shaniwar Peth, Shukrawar Peth, Somwar Peth, and Vetal Peth. These 'Peths' are unique to Pune.
