The Pune Festival is the biggest events in Pune, Maharashtra. Organized by the Pune Festival Committee and Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation, this festival is marked by performances of renowned artists and maestros. People from all across the globe come to the city to enjoy the festive spirit and celebrations. The festival is held sometime during August and September.
Origin of the Pune Festival
The festival was first held during the occasion of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival in Maharashtra. Ganesh is considered to be the main God worshiped by all the Marathi people. Even today Ganesh Mahotsav is celebrated during the same time. The Pune festival begins only after the idol of Lord Ganesh is placed in the Nehru stadium. Mr Suresh Kalmadi started the festival in 1989.

Pune Festival 2007
In 2007, the inaugural ceremony of Pune festival took place on 21st September. The venue was Ganesh Kala Krida Manch in Pune, where the German ambassador Brend Muepzelburg came to grace the occasion.
