- Shri. Vasant Kanetkar: An eminent dramatist, who made significant contribution to theater for four decades. He was educated in the city of Pune, Maharashtra. He tried to draw the attention of the Marathi people towards theater. 'Ghar' is considered to be his first major book, which was published in the year 1950.
- Vinayak Damodar Savarkar: Educated in Pune, this famous patriot instigated the feelings of patriotism among the people of India and also those Indians residing in England, through his speeches and revolutionary activities. He burnt foreign garments as a protest and formed a group of Indian people with arms to fight the Britishers.
- Pt. Vishnu Digambar Paluskar: A renowned and talented classical musician, who could arrange notations in music on his own. The notations of the popular Indian patriotic song song Sare Jahan Se Achha and our National Anthem Jan Gan Man were composed by this great vocalist. He set up Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in Pune. Paluskar breath his last in this city itself.

- Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj: One of the great Hindu Kings, who was very brave and possessed fine military skills. He set up one of the largest empires in India. Born in Pune, Shivaji is the pride of the Indians.
- Gopal Krishna Gokhale: He was a political and social reformer who contributed greatly to the Indian National movement. He was a teacher in Pune's New English School and later at the Ferguson College. He was also the secretary of the committee during the session of the Indian Nation Congress in Pune.
- Dhanraj pillay and Hrishikesh Kanitkar: They are the two popular sports personality from Pune. Dhanraj Pillay is hockey player who has participated in international events like World cups, Asian games and the Olympics. Hrishikesh Kanitkar, is a famous Indian left handed batsman, also from Pune. He has also played for the Ranji trophy, Maharashtra.
- Shanta Shelke: She was a popular Marathi writer and a talented music composer. The songs written by her have been sung by famous playback singers in more than 300 films.
- Sharad Talwalkar: He is a reputed theater and film personality from Pune. He has acted in several Marathi films, almost 180 in number.
