Founded in 1994, Army Institute of Technology is commonly known as AIT Pune. Gen B.C Joshi took initiative in the establishment of Pune Army Institute of Technology. Gen S. Roy Chaudhary inaugurated this institute on February 24, 1995. The institute is situated in Dighi Hills, Pune-411015
AIT Pune is 7 kilometers from the airport and 14 kilometers and 13 kilometers respectively from bus stand and railway station.

The wonderful campus, friendly atmosphere, and helpful teachers create the perfect ambiance for studying. In 1999 the first BE students' batch passed out from this college. In every field, be it a sports, or cultural activities, the students actively take part.
Presently, AIT has got ISO 9001:2000 certification and recognition from Accreditation Council, NAAC. For Mechanical, Electronics, Telecommunication and Computer Science Department it has acquired National Board of Accreditation, NBA.

The chief aim of the institute is to produce good engineers. Their skills are developed in such a way so that they can cope up with the challenges of the modern world.
Maj Gen BPS Grewal is the Chairman of this institute. Other members of the Managing Body are BT Pandit, and Lt Gen Mahesh Vij.
Some of the facilities offered by this institute are library, sport ground, cyber-cafe, mess, hostel, canteen, banking services, and shopping mall. Apart from these medical facilities are also offered to the students.
The students are also encouraged to participate in the cultural programs. There are several clubs like Tech Club and Cultural Club that organize the cultural events on a regular basis. Blood donation camps are also organized by the Army Institute of Technology. Shrijana is the name of its annual college magazine.
Prof RB Patil heads the Mechanical Engineering Department. To seek admission in this institute, a student has to pass AIEE, All India Engineering Entrance Examination. The Central Board of Secondary Education conducts this program.
Several job opportunities are also provided to the students of AIT Pune. Infosys, WIPRO, HSBC, and Tech Mahindra recruit students through campus interviews.
