Vihar Lake is Mumbai's biggest lake and is flowing across Sanjay Gandhi National Park (popularly known as Borivili National Park). This wonderful lake is located around 27 miles from the city center. This lake is in fact one of the major sources of drinking water, especially, for the people of Southern Mumbai. Flowing down from the hill ranges of Powai-Kanheri, rainwater mingles with this lovely watercourse.
Its surrounding area is hilly and this land enjoys a lot of agricultural production. There is also a sunset point very close to the Vihar lake, Mumbai. At dusk tourists can have a majestic view of sunset over here.

On the north bank of Lake Vihar there are water pipelines that run along the eastern part of the lake. Apart from this, in its eastern bank, IIT Bombay is also situated. Public are not allowed to visit the Vihar Lake. People who are interested to visit this place has to seek permission from the park authority.
Mumbai's other lakes Powai and Tulsi are in close proximity to this lake. Its limit of overflow is approximately estimated to be 80.42 meters. The surrounding region of this lake enjoys soothing climactic condition and tourists are allowed to take snaps. Often people can see tortoises and crocodiles in this picturesque lake of Mumbai.
