Vatanyachi Usal


Vatanyachi Usal is highly consumed by the people of Mumbai. It is also known by the name Kaalya Vatanyacha Sambar and is quite easy to prepare. The ingredients needed to prepare this Maharashtrian recipe are peas, rai, oil, heeng (asafoetida) jeera, chillies, fresh coriander leaves, haldi, grated coconut, lemon, sugar and salt according to taste.

Procedure to be followed is also quite easy. First pour oil in a vessel and give heat to it. Thereafter add asafoetida, jeera, haldi, rai and jeera. Fry it until chilies get fried. After this add peas and stir it well. When this mixture is cooked properly, stir it with sugar.
Apart from this, lemon juice and salt are also used in this preparation.

After this remove the mixture from heat. Garnish it with grated coriander leaves and sliced coconuts. Mainly people of Mumbai have it with roti. It is always advisable to serve this dish hot.

Vatanyachi Usal is considered to be a traditional Marathi dish and is very popular among the local people of Mumbai, however people outside Mumbai also prefer to have it. This food item is appropriate for the health-conscious people. It is good to eat and can also be bought at reasonable price rates.
