Ahmed Salman Rushdie also known as Salman Rushdie was born in 1947 in Mumbai, India. He is one of the popular contemporary novelists. His works revolve around various fields of study. Sometimes his narratives are associated with religion, sometimes with mythology, sometimes with fantasy or even oral tradition. Besides being a novelist, he has also made his mark in world literature as an essayist as well as a critic.
Salman Rushdie in his early age received formal education from Cathedral School in Mumbai. Then he was send to England to study at the Rugby Boys' School. He pursued his higher studies from the King's College in Cambridge. He completed his graduation in 1968 in History.
After completing his higher study, Rushdie started his career by working in a television station in Pakistan. Later he also took up acting and joined a theater group. He also worked as a freelance copy writer in an advertising agency.
Rushdie began his writing career with his Grimus. It is a science fiction published in 1975. He wrote a book for children known as Haroun and the Sea of Stories. For this book, he received the Writers' Guild Award. Later the novelist was honored with the Booker Prize for Midnight's Children. In 1988 Rushdie was given the Whitbread Award for his The Satanic Verses. In the year 2007, Queen Elizabeth II of Britain has

Salman Rushdie married four times. His first marriage was with Clarissa Luard. Then he married Marianne Wiggins. In 2004 Rushdie tied his knots with Padma Laxmi but later they decided to divorce.
