MTNL Mumbai offers communication services to residents in and around the city of Mumbai. Mumbai MTNL was established in 1882 on 28th January as the Bombay Telephone Company. In 1943 Bombay Telephone Company with 21000 subscribers was taken over by The British Government. Mumbai MTNL was formed on 1st April, 1986. In 2001 MTNL was listed in New York Stock Exchange. In 2000, MTNL in Mumbai crossed the 2 million subscribers figure. In the same year MTNL became completely electronic.

Hello, at your Service - MTNL Services

The Services provided by Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) can be broadly classified into seven categories, namely:
  • Telephone Services - Bombay MTNL offers New Telephone Connections (NTC), Casual Telephone Connection for a period of up to 30 days, and Temporary Telephone Connection for use uptil six months
  • Dolphin Mobile Services – Dolphin in Mumbai is the mobile service being provided by MTNL since February 2001. This service is based on 1800 Mhz/ GSM 800 band technology.
  • Broadband Services – 'TriBand' the Broadband Services offered by MTNL allows the subscriber an 'always-on' Internet access with 256 Kbps data transfer speed.
  • ISDN – Integrated Services Digital Network
    allows the subscriber data, voice, and image transmission over a single connection. It will enable the subscriber to attend two calls simultaneously over a single pair of connection.
  • WILL Services - This scheme offered by MTNL entails a subscriber for 'Garuda CDMA' connection to a Trump SIM card of Rs.150/- free of cost.
  • Phone Plus Facility - These are offered to all MTNL subscribers at an incremental cost per facility. The facilities are : abbreviated dialing, call transfer, call line identification presentation (CLIP), hot line, three party conference, call alert, and absentee facility.
  • National Trunk Services – STD enabled connections can avail of this facility at convenient rates. Subscribers can call land line as well as mobile connections.
  • International Trunk Services - An ISD enabled subscriber can make international calls at reasonable rates across the globe.
  • Free Phone Service - This facility allows the subscriber to call a number for which all charges will be paid by the caller himself.
Bombay MTNL as on 1st April, 2004 had a total of 183 exchanges with total a capacity of almost 2.9 million. Out of these 2.9 million 2.4 million were working.

MTNL Mumbai operates through Area Offices in South Mumbai, West Mumbai, Northe Mumbai, and Central Mumbai.
