Mumbai Marathon is an exciting and fun filled event calling people to the city from far and wide. The marathon is actually held to serve as a platform for raising money for charity. Every year this exciting event takes place in Mumbai, India, where people of all age groups participate with lot of enthusiasm and zest. This is the largest sporting event, which demands great passion and dedication to help for a noble cause.
The event is mainly sponsored by the Standard Chartered Bank. Earlier it has been estimated that the amount raised was 8 crores approximately, which was of immense help to more than 144 NGO's. In this event, long distance runners also participate. To compete in this spectacular event, one must register himself, only after which he/she will be given an item tracker, a Fundraiser's Kit and a Booklet.
Registration for Mumbai Marathon
On-line registration is available for those willing to participate in the event. Entry forms are available at the different branches of standard Chartered Banks. People can fill the entry forms and submit them along with the entry fee to the nearby Standard Chartered Bank or send them by post. Forms can be also bought from the DHF outlets and Tawalkars Gymnasiums.

Besides, there are also relay races for runners' team of Corporate Sporting Challenge. Each team comprises 6 members and need to complete a distance of 7 kilometers.
Mumbai Marathon Race Information
Those who participate in the Marathon and Half Marathon event are given a chip, which measures the total time taken to run by that person during the event. The chip is tied in the anklet on an elastic Velcro strap. As soon as the contestant enters the electromagnetic field that is on the beginning and finishing ends of the course the chip starts sending signal. To avail the chip, an amount of Rs 1000 needs to be deposited. The chip is available at the Chip Timing Desk and after the event is over, it must be returned to the Chip Refund counter.

Mumbai Marathon 2008
The Mumbai marathon to be held on 20th January, 2008, is the most awaited event, that will include almost 30,000 participants, with 14, 000 people at the Dream Run, 2500 at the Senior Citizens Run, 3000 in the Corporate Challenge and 300 at the Wheelchair event. Officially training would be provided by the Tawalkars.
