Kolhapuri Mutton is a non-vegetarian spicy delicacy of Mumbai. An indigenous preparation of the natives of Kolhapur district of Maharashtra, Kolhapuri Mutton is one of the favorite Mumbai recipes.
The main ingredients for cooking Kolhapuri Mutton is 1 kilogram of lamb, dried coconut, 2 pieces of ginger, green chilies, 1 tea spoon of turmeric powder, red chilies, three sticks of cinnamon, 1 tea spoon of jira powder, 1 tea spoon of methi, 3 table spoon of cooking oil, black pepper, cloves, 1 tea spoon of shaha jira and salt. Make a paste of ginger, garlic

and green chilies. The dried coconut is baked till it turns brown in color. The baked coconut is made into a powder. The spices are fried in cooking oil and then made into a paste. The mutton is then coated with the paste of spices and green chilies. The preparation is preserved for complete two hours for marination.
After two hours, the marinated preparation is cooked over low heat. The grinded coconut, lime juice and salt are added for better taste. Serve the Kolhapuri Mutton with chapattis or plain rice. A popular dish of Mumbai city dwellers, Kolhapuri Mutton is prepared during special occasions.
