Javed Akhtar is a noted poet, lyricist, and script writer who writes in Hindi and Urdu. He had joined the film industry of Mumbai in the year 1969 and has made a mark for himself for his contribution to literature and movies. His poem Tarkash shows his command over Urdu. His father too was a noted Urdu poet. The theme of most of his poems includes social issues, such as women's issues, social injustice and communalism.

His Urdu poem collection, 'Tarkash' published in the year 1995 was highly appraised and was the first Urdu collection of poems to be brought out in audio medium. The poems have till now been translated into English, Hindi, Bengali and Marathi. After the first release of Tarkash, seven editions have come out in Hindi and three in Urdu. No other Urdu poems of Akhtar have been published as of yet but Akhtar is working towards producing more Urdu poems.

Family Background of Javed Akhtar
Javed Akhtar was born on January 17th, 1945 to parents Safia Akhtar and Jan Nisa Aktar. He was born into a family of writers, where the tradition of writing went back to about seven generations. Both the parents of Akhtar taught at the Hamida College. Besides, both the Urdu poems by his father and grandfather contributed handsomely to Urdu literature. He has been twice married. His first wife was honey Irani and his present wife is actress Shabana Azmi, daughter of Kaifi Azmi. His son and daughter Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar are also into writing and direction of films. Though he is settled in Mumbai, he was born in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
