Infrastructure in Mumbai is aslo being developed under the Land Infrastructure Servicing Program. Under this scheme almost 88,000 sites are being developed in Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Greater Mumbai. Development of nearly 35,000 Greater Mumbai slum households also falls under the purview of this project. Storm water drainage and betterment of water supply are other infrastructure developmental projects currently being implemented.
Mumbai BEST
The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) forms an integral part of Mumbai infrastructure.
BEST Electric Supply - The Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) and Tata Power Companies (TPC) supplies power to BEST which takes care of its distribution throughout Mumbai. TPC sub-stations located in Backbay, Carnac, Dharavi, Mahalaxmi, and Parel supply 110/33/22kV power to BEST. BEST in turn supplies power at 6.6 kV/ 11 kV to the various distribution sub-stations which steps down this power to 415/ 240 volt for supply to consumers.
BEST Transport - Mumbai covering an area of 430 square kilometers is spread over seven islands. A fleet of buses cover all these islands. The bus route numbers are very typical of Mumbai city, namely i) Route 9 covers all schools and colleges; ii) Routes 1, 66, 202 ply round the clock; iii) Route 161 covers the Eastern city areas and the oil reservoirs; iv) Route 166 connects the hospitals of Mumbai; v) Routes 221 td, 251 td, and 320 covers the city's two largest water reservoirs.
Mumbai Infrastructure is going through an improvement phase that will make moving around this vibrant city joyous and smooth.
