Bombil Batata Bhaji

Bombil Batata Bhaji is one of the popular Maharashtrian dishes. Also referred to as Bombay Duck, Bombil Batata Bhaji is prepared from dried Bombil fish. The main ingredients required to cook this delicacy are eight to ten pieces of Bombil fish, six potatoes, coriander leaves, garlic, green chilies, grated coconut, table salt, cooking oil, red chili powder and turmeric powder.

Bombil Batata Bhaji is one of the common Mumbai recipes. Before cooking, the pieces of Bombil fish and the potatoes must be cleansed in water. The skin of the potatoes should not be peeled. The washed slices of the fish should be allowed to dry in air. After the pieces have dried up, chili powder, paste of garlic, coriander leaves, shredded coconut, turmeric powder
and salt mixture should be applied on the Bombil fish.

The potatoes should be sliced into thin pieces. The same mixture of coriander leaves, garlic paste, salt to taste, chili powder, turmeric powder and coconut must be applied on the potatoes. After that, the potatoes and Bombay Duck should be mixed together. The uncooked preparation should be allowed to marinate for over an hour.

After one hour, cooking oil should be heated in a shallow container. The marinated preparation is added to the oil and cooked on medium heat. The container should be covered till the preparation is cooked. Bombil Batata Bhaji is prepared in the morning and served at dinner.
