Swabhumi


Swabhumi is a heritage park in Kolkata. It is located at 89C, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Sarani, Kolkata -54. Just opposite to Swabhumi, there are Subhas Sarovar and Salt Lake Stadium. Swabhumi is only 4 kilometers away from the Park Circus connector and people require only half an hour time to reach the city center from this tourist destination. People who are interested to visit Swabhumi can avail a train to Ultadanga Railway Station and reach Swabhumi by taxi.

Swabhumi can be divided into 5 main parts. They are Shilpgram (village of traditional crafts), Santushti (a food court), Sambhar (Urban Zone), Sabhaghar (offering banquet facilities) and Meenabazar.

Usually from 10 am to 7 pm Swabhumi remains open and to explore the entire area, visitors need a minimum 2 hours. It is basically a heritage plaza that reflects Indian tradition of art and culture. Swabhumi is nestled on a hillock which is famous for woodcrafts, Gond paintings and bamboo-made items. It is indeed the ideal place to purchase Kantha Stitch and Block Printed saris, paper products, Wood Carvings and Showpieces from Krishnanagar, Puruliya and Kalimpong.

Besides this, furniture made of wrought iron can
also be seen over here. A person interested in home decorating items and designer clothes can visit "Colors of India". Apart from this, there is another shop displaying collections of Shrabari Dutta.

People interested in souvenir can also have a good time in Swabhumi. Here Dokhra craft style items are sold. Moreover, one can purchase saris and kurtas having Riddhi prints. Karigar Haat and Meena Bazar enthrall the customers with their wide range of collections. Meena Bazar sells ethnic jewelries and items made by Indian village dwellers.

The food court of Swabhumi deserves special mention that provides the customers with several types of Indian dishes. Some of them include Konkani, Ilish Paturi, Chettinad Chicken, Kadhai Paneer and many more delectable cuisines. On the other hand, Santhushti is considered to be the right choice for enjoying exotic cuisines. Paschima, Ahaar, Dakshini are some other food outlets in Swabhumi of Calcutta.

On the other hand, Aangan is the perfect choice for enjoying recipes of Rajasthan. Added to this, to serve the business purposes of people, Swabhumi (My Land) offers a conference hall named Rang Manch which is hired on different occasions like seminars and meetings. It is spread over 8000 square feet area and has an accommodate capacity of 2000.
