Kolkata St. Xavier's School is affiliated to both, West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, Kolkata, and Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi. Till class X, students can either pursue West Bengal Secondary Board syllabus or Council for the Indian School Certificate curriculum. However, in the senior secondary classes (classes XI and XII) students must follow the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination syllabus. The academic session is from April to March.
St. Xavier's School in Kolkata is spread over two sections: the primary section (classes I to V) in Wood Street – Hungerford Street, and the secondary school (class VI to XII) in Park Street. In the senior secondary school boys can opt for either Science subjects (mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology or computers), or Commerce (mathematics, accounts, commerce, economics or computer). English and an Indian language are compulsory for either Science or Commerce.

The boys of this Kolkata School are divided into four houses, namely, Berchmans (yellow), Britto (red), Gonzaga (green), and Loyola (blue). Both the primary and secondary sections have playgrounds where inter house, and inter school football, hockey, and cricket matches are held regularly.
Debates, elocution competitions, and in-house quiz contests are the other regular activities in this school.

The school remains closed on Thursdays and Sundays. The primary students are required to wear white shirts and gray shorts, while the secondary boys wear white shirt and white trousers.
