South Calcutta Girl’s College is a government-aided educational institute. It has got affiliation from the Calcutta University. In July 1932, South Calcutta Girl’s College was set up. The noted educationists Late Peary Mohan Chatterjee established this college in order to provide higher education to the women of Calcutta. The college is located at 72, Sarat Bose Road, Kolkata - 25. It is a 6 storeyed building which comprises a lawn and a hostel.
The study courses of South Calcutta Girl’s College are prepared in such a way that the students get encouragement to face the challenges of modern world. Since from different sections of society students come to study here, the charges of the hostel accommodation are kept minimum.
Special stress is given on the healthy relationship among the teachers and students. Apart from this, students are also encouraged to participate in the co-curricular activities.

and Honors programs. Here the students can pursue B.A as well as B. Sc. Degrees. The total number of seats in Bengali, History and Political Science department is 50, whereas, 20 students at a time can pursue Botany Honors course in this college. English Honors department, on the other hand, offers 33 seats.
Some other college departments include Journalism, geography, sociology,, Economics, education, philosophy, Zoology and Sanskrit.
Dr. Gouri Pada Dutta is the President of South Calcutta Girl’s College, whereas, Dr. Jayasri Ghosh is the Secretary of the Governing Body as well as the Principal of this college.
The college campus of South Calcutta Girl's houses a library, a hostel, computer training center and laboratories. It also has a canteen, common room and a gym.
