Sandhya Mukhopadhyay


Sandhya Mukhopadhyayis one of the living legends of Bengali songs. She has sung Bengali modern songs, Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti, classical songs, devotional songs, and Hindi songs with equal ease and expertise.

Sandhya Mukhopadhyay Early life

Sandhya Mukhopadhyay was born in Calcutta in 1931 on 4th October. She began her training in classical music under Santosh Basu after her matriculation in Kolkata. Thereafter she underwent training under Gemini Ganguly, Prof. Chinmoy Lahiri, and Prof. A. Kannan. From 1950 onwards she had become a disciple of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Sahab and later his son Ustad Munawar Ali Khan.

Singer Sandhya Mukhopadhyay started her singing career in 1948 in Bombay in a Hindi film 'Anjaan Garh' with her song 'Ab Nahi Dharat Dheer Dheer' the music of which was composed by Rai Chand Boral. She became famous with her song 'Ashkon Mein Chhipi Mohabbat Ki Kahani' in the film 'Pehla Aadmi'.

Sandhya Mukhopadhyay Works

Artist Sandhya Mukherjee established herself as a successful singer with her 'Aa Gupchup Gupchup Pyar Karen' with Hemant Kumar in Sazaa which was composed by S.D. Barman, and 'Bol Papihe Bol Kaun Hai Tera Chitchor' with Lata Mangeskar in film 'Taraana' that was composed by Anil Biswas. Her other notable Hindi film songs include:
  • 'Maine Jo Lee Angrayee Teri Mehfil' in Jaagte Raho by Salil Choudhury
  • 'Jangal Mangal' in Baaghi composed by Madan
    Monan.
  • 'Tose Naina Laage Re Saanwariya' in Mamta the music composition of which was done by Roshan
  • 'Udaasiyon Me Nazar Kho Gayee' in Fareb composed by Anil Biswas
After having established firmly in Hindi music she moved and settled in Calcutta after getting married to lyricist Shyamal Gupta.
