The recruitment process is through a competitive examination. All candidates who wish to apply for either the class I or class II designations have to clear the examination. The examination tests the students in Basic English, General Knowledge and Mathematics. After clearing the examination, the candidates have to undergo training pertaining to their work. The training period depends on their post. There is a minimum and maximum age for appearing in this examination. While the minimum age is 18 for most of the posts, it is 20 for some others. Of course, it is mandatory for all applicants to pass out class twelve before appearing for the examination. For certain designations, the minimum qualification required is graduation in any stream from a recognized university.
