Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty is a very famous personality of Kolkata. He is a renowned classical vocalist of India. Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty was born in the year 1953 in Kolkata. From a very early age, Ajoy Chakraborty’s skills have been recognized. Shri Ajit Chakraborty, Ajoy’s father, has been his first music teacher. Besides taking music lessons from his father, Chakraborty also took training from other maestros like Pandit Gyan Prakash Ghosh, Shri Kanai Das Bairagi and Late Munawar Ali Khan who was the son of Ustad Bade Gulam Ali Khan.
Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty as a student also made outstanding performances in academics. From Rabindra Bharati University, he won gold medals in both Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Master of Arts (M.A.) as he became First Class First in both examinations.

Awards Won by Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty
Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty is regarded as one of the renowned classical singers of the Patiala Gharana. He received Kumar Gandharva award. This national award for music is given to musicians with outstanding talents under the age of forty five.
In 1990, Ajoy ji had been honored with the President’s Award. No other classical vocalist of India had won this award for being the ‘Best Male Playback Singer’ before him. Ajoy Chakraborty is also the winner of several awards given by the state for film songs. Among the classical vocalists of India, Chakraborty received an invitation from Pakistan Government to perform in that nation. From the Sangeet Research Academy of Kolkata, Ajoy Chakraborty has been given a gold medal.
A music school named as Shrutinandan has been founded by Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty. Shrutinandan has been set up in Calcutta. This school offers training in vocal music of India to young children with talents in music. The school is open to all music lovers who are interested in classical music of India.
