Mohun Bagan Club is one of the best clubs of West Bengal. This club was formed on 15th August, 1889 in Kolkata. United Breweries Group ( McDowell's) is the sponsor of this club and Salt Lake Stadium (Yuba Bharati) is its home ground. This stadium can accommodate up to 1, 20, 000 people. Mohun Bagan Athletic Club is considered to be the oldest Asian football club. This national institution is around 117 years old.
Presently, FIFA has selected Mohun Bagan among the 11 best clubs to form club football's task force. Mr. Swapan Sadhan Bose is the president of Mohun Bagan, whereas, Mr. Anjan Mitra is the General Secretary. Mr. Balaram Choudhury is the assistant General secretary of this club. On the other hand, Mr. Debashis Dutta and Mr. Om Jhunjhunwala are the managers and Mr. Biru Chatterjee and Mr. Krishna Saha are the treasurers.

Manilal Sen is the first captain of Mohun Bagan club. In 1940, this club made a record by playing both cricket and football on the foreign land. Again, in 1969, this club acquired world-wide popularity for winning all the trophies for football, tennis, cricket and hockey. Mohun Bagan is also considered to be the first team of India to win IFA shield (1911). This club was also invited to participate in the Rovers Cup, 1921. It also played in Durand cup (1925), the oldest Asian tournament. In 1951, Mohun Bagan occupied the first position in the Asian Games, 1951. During that time Shailen Manna had been the captain of that team.
Some of the famous personalities who played for this club for a couple of years are Mr.Jurnal Singh, Mr. Sudip Chattarjee, Atanu Bhattacharyya and several others. Mohun Bagan also made a hatrick in Durand Cup. In 2005, Premium Calcutta Football League was won by this club.
In Maidan, there is a statue of Gostho Pal, who played for this club all through his life. The footballers of Mohun Bagan who were honored with "Padmashree" are Sailen Manna, Ghostho Pal and Chuni Goswami. Mohun Bagan is the first football club (from Calcutta) that has won the National Football League.
