Kolkata Metro


Kolkata metro is one of the chief modes of transportation within the city and ever since its opening, it has efficiently en-shouldered the traffic load of the city. It covers a considerable distance from north to south Kolkata is expected to cover a larger distance in future. The Metro services in Kolkata commence from 7 in the morning, concluding at 9 pm On Sundays, the metro services remain open from 3pm to 9pm. On special occasions, such as Durga Puja, the metro services remain closed in the morning and are availed to the public at night.

When a passenger avails the metro services, he is expected not carry any inflammable or sharp objects or anything of the sought that can cause harm. Smoking is strictly prohibited in the metro station and inside the train. In case a passenger is found to violate the rules or traveling with a ticket of insufficient price, he can be detained by the Kolkata metro railway authorities and even fined.

Expansion Plans of Kolkata Metro

There are plans to extend the metro services from Tollygunge to New Garia. Expectedly, there would be six more station, of which five will be elevated stations. The six stations would be located in Kudghat, Bansdroni, Garia Bazar, Pranas Nagar and New Garia. The works of expansion were sanctioned roughly around 1999 and 2000.

Buying Tickets of Kolkata Metro Railway Station

The passengers are expected to buy the tickets of the correct price before boarding the train. The price of the ticket differs with the distance. Usually, the price decided by the number of zones that the passenger travels. The zones are decided on the basis of minimum distance from one particular metro station. Tickets are of different types. The ticket authorities sell two way tickets, double tickets and group tickets. People who commute regularly through the Kolkata Metro may buy either the Limited multi-ride ticket or the Extended multi ride ticket. It is profitable to buy these multi-ride tickets, as there is a good amount of rebate of the ticket fare.
